New Daily Morning Show with Rosie O’Donnell on Sirius XM
Rosie Radio is set to launch this fall and air Monday – Friday from 10am -12pm ET on Sirius XM Stars, Sirius ch.102 and XM ch.155. Rosie Radio is said to be a daily, two-hour talk show on which she will blend her many passions and interests – an eclectic mix of humor, pop culture and serious conversation.
“Rosie O’Donnell is a powerful, dynamic and entertaining voice and now you can only get her on Sirius XM,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, Sirius XM Radio. “Rosie’s millions of fans will hear her as they never have before, and have the chance to call in and talk to her and her intriguing guests. Rosie Radio will entertain, inform, surprise and delight.”
Now that she is “exclusively” on Sirius XM, does this mean her fans will no longer be able to see and hear her via the infamous Roise blog, where she has been known for her outspoken written and video rants over the years? At the time of this writing there was curiously no mention of her move to Sirius XM… I expected to see a maniacal video blog at the very least to let her fans know where they could catch her next, maybe it is coming soon.
Yippee! Now we can pay to listen to Rosie O’Donnell profess that 9-11 was the first time in history that fire melted metal. Great acquisition Sirius. How many millions is Mel paying her for her valuable contribution to satellite radio? What’s the matter Mel, was the Barrington upgrade forcing the share price too high?
Now that Rosie is on Sirius, the only thing we are missing are terrorist… Never mind, I forgot Sirius already interviewed and allowed Yusuf Islam to perform on The Spectrum. Hey, I missed it. Did he happen to perform Peace Train?
Tristan: Rosie is a better fit for Sirius than Oprah. XM completely wasted 55 million in signing her, her channel has according to reports drawn an average of ten thousand listeners per week and no promotion out of her. It could also send a signal that her contract will not be renewed. Rosie would definitely attract more male listeners and I will switch over once and a while when Howard is in commercials. She is very interesting and after watching her documentary on HBO my opinion of her character completely changed. She may be a little off with her 9/11 thoughts but is Jesse Ventura also off too? Isn’t he going to write a book about 9/11 echoing in part some of the same ideas talked about by Rosie? Along the way didn’t she mention that Osama Bin Laden has never been indicted by anyone for complicity in the 9-11 murders, since it was obviously a criminal act? Isn’t that something you should be wondering about too? I do and I’m a New York Attorney, and a Republican, and I lost 17 clients in the WTC and I would like to know when all of these victims will get justice? It is, after all is said and done an unsolved crime committed in the State and City of New York and when and if they dig this guy out of where ever he is hiding, shouldn’t he answer for his crimes in front of the People of the City of New York? Rosie’s got guts, she said those things during the Bush Administration, you can love her or hate her but she will bring compelling radio to Sirius, and that’s what counts.
She’s very talented, in fact take another look at “A League of Our Own” the brilliant movie about Womens Baseball during WWII, both she and Madonna are wonderful in the movie.
As to Yusuf Islam, I can understand your point. I’m 50 and lucky enough to go to a Cat Stevens concert in 1978 during the tour to support the Izitso album. For many of my generation his songs reflect growing up in the late sixties and early seventies. Everyone from my generation can relate to “Father and Son” which is still an amazing song as well as “Day’s of the Old School Yard” Even Izitso which gives us a hint of what was to come, when he wrote I never wanted to be a star, I never wanted to travel far…”
Yusuf Islam I don’t know, was Sirius right to invite him to play on the Spectrum? Maybe yes maybe no but somehow the Bush administration let him in to this country to play his music so why not? Did his album sell? I think it barely sold here so in the grand spectrum of things its not such a bad thing and if he played any of his old songs as Cat Stevens then why not let him play. Cat Stevens is part of Rock and Roll and while you never would go check out Cat Stevens greatest hits maybe you will learn something.
Oh and by the way are you a shareholder of Sirius? How many Radios do you have? Are your NAB dues current?
I own over 14,500 shares of Sirius at an average cost of $3.45. I am a lifetime subscriber to Sirius and have one additional Sirius subscription and one XM subscription, which I am forced to pay full price for even though Sirius and XM have merged. I have yet to see the “cost savings” which Mel promised would be past onto the subscribers. The cost for the service continues to increase while the quality decreases.
Another benefit of the merger is that I can no longer leave my radio on the 80’s or 90’s channel because the XM subscribers got their wish and now these channels have a much larger play list. After a few good songs these channels will play some horrendous pre-gangsta rap song and I have to change the channel. Dear Sirius XM, just because Milli Vanilli acted as if they were singing in the 80’s doesn’t make their songs 80’s music.
Howard Stern reamed Sirius-XM this morning for how they handled the announcement of Rosie coming on board.
He made it very clear he didn’t think too much of how management chooses to market her.
It was painful to listen to.
Howard is in classic, ” negotiate new contract” mode. Suddenly everyone at Sirius is the ” man” who is keeping him down. He has no where to go and his ego is to big to go it alone…he knows it will fail. He either comes back for less or he does not come back.
See ya Howie…. Sirius is better without you…
Hate to say it..but I agree.
I say cut that has been loose. Does anyone really like his pathetic tired show besides BooBoo?
You are correct. He wants more, but SIRI can’t pay him. I have a thread going on the subject in the forums. It’s going to be interesting.
YES!!
He is very predictable. Mel probably told him we will not resign you for 500 million. Probably offered him just over what terrestrial could offer, and said take it or leave it. We really dont NEED you anymore. But we would LOVE to have you.
Howard Stern is about 2 years old maturity wise. Nice try blah blah bloohey. Sorry to see the stock go up today im sure. Bad day for you. Keep up your BS, all the way to $1 and higher, for all I care. Your like a broken record.
All negative, always complaining, all the time.
Pot meet kettle. You are all positive, always pumping, all the time.
First of all, I was posting my impression of Stern’s action.
My comment was reflective of his action and not the company.
I thought Stern was over the top considering his status.
It makes perfect sense to Sirius-XM to try and promote outside their marquis talent.
However, the obvious lack of communication from Sirius-XM management to Stern himself doesn’t bode well for the company.
It’s obvious now that Sirius-XM management has a serious problem with proper and effective communication with everyone.
Bringing in Rosie is one of the few things I think Sirius-XM has done right.
As for your opinion of the Howard Stern show, you obviously don’t get it and never will.
I won’t waste my time trying to explain it.
Secondly, your irrational exuberance for the Sirius-XM stock is like a broken record.
Always positive, always pushing, all the time.
It must have ticked you off to see that the shorts are still around amid the profit taking on Friday.
Sirius-XM closed at 36 cents despite the best week of press they have had since signing Stern.
This is a great addition for after people get to work in the morning, when the Stern show is over and everyone can listen at work on their iphones.
Love the show! I now can go back and forth between Howard and Rosie. It takes me 50 minutes
to get a 5 minute errand done because I can’t get out of the car because she is so good.
It is like a Howard Stern for women. She’s a great interviewer and can make any
guest interesting and understands that celebrities are not always the best guest.
When Stern has the porn stars and the strippers on I tune out. Now have have some
where to tune in. No competition between the two.
Each day she gets better and more comfortable.
